1. Harappan civilization is also called Arya civilization,indus valley civilization.
1. This site came to light in 1922 on account of excavation Carried out in Mohenjodaro.
2. This civilization was flourished about 5000BC.
3. Main sites: Harrapa, Mohenjodaro,chinhodaro,lothal, Kalibangan and Benawali.
4. The Indus Valley economy was heavily based on Agriculture,Cattle rearing,industries.

6. Cotton , Barely,rice are products of the Indus Valley trade which they cultivate..
7. Their wealth was based on a subsistence economy of wheat and barley.
8. Instead of money, there was a swapping and bartering system
9. They used long distance trade with Lapis lazuli (precious stone)
10. At that time the wheel used in Bullock carts were known as EKKA (but not a spoked
wheel)
11. The Indus Valley Civilization had what was called soapstone seals and this is what they
might have used for money later on in the civilization
12. The Indus Valley people had one of the largest trading areas, ranging anywhere from
Mesopotamia to China
13. The other crops grown by them were pulses, cereals, cotton, dates, melons, pea,
sesamum and mustard.
14. Harappan civilization was an agro-commercial civilization.
15. Evidences of hoe and plough have been found in Kalibangan and Banawali.
16. Humpless bull or unicorn was the most important animal for them.
17. The Harappan culture belongs to the Bronze Age, as the people were very well
acquainted with the manufacture and use of bronze.
18. Weavers wore clothes of wool and cotton. Leather was also known to them but no
evidence of silk has been found.
19. Crops were mostly cultivated during November because of floods.
20. Land trade and sea trade was in vogue.
21. Two intermediates trading stations called Dilmun and makan are identified with
Bahrain and Makran coast (pakistan) respectively.
22. A dockyard has been found at Lothal which is the longest building of the Harppan
civilization
23. They used Pictorial scluptures , writing was not well developed
